The Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (CRTA) limits the amount of cannabis adults can possess and therefore buy at any given time. These limits are different for Illinois residents and non-Illinois residents. Adults are allowed to purchase once per day.
Illinois Residents Possession Limits
30 grams of flower
5 grams of concentrates (including vape pens and cartridges)
500mg (0.5g) of infused products (edibles, topicals, tinctures, etc.)
Non-Illinois Residents Possession Limits
15 grams of flower
2.5 grams of concentrates (including vape pens and cartridges)
250mg (0.25g) of infused products (edibles, topicals, tinctures, etc.)
All IDs must be scannable, as required under the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (CRTA). Identification must include a government issued ID, either state ID, Driver’s License, registration certificate issued under the Military Selective Service Act, or an identification issued to a member of the Armed Services, or other valid government issued ID. Any identification that is acceptable shall be valid and unexpired and contain a photograph and date of birth.
Additionally, a passport may be utilized, but unless it is accompanied by a second form of identification listing the purchaser’s current address, all passports will be categorized as ‘out of state’ residents. Passports must also be scannable in order to enter our store and purchase cannabis products.

If you have an issue with a product and its quality, please contact us and we’ll do our best to make it right.
All products are produced by licensed manufacturers and arrive at our facility pre-packaged and sealed under the CRTA. These products are lab tested for potency and safety including e coli, mycotoxins, residual pesticides, residual solvents, and other safety features.
While these tests are some of the best and strictest quality assurance protocols in the nation for legal cannabis, sometimes products slip through that are not as described or defective. Unfortunately, we have little control over the products since those are created and packaged by manufacturers. However, we will work diligently to make right any issues you have as an adult use purchaser at our facility which may include store credit, refund, or other alternatives in case of defective products.
Please keep in mind, we do have to reach out to manufacturers to rectify any problems and generally they require some documentation, so please bear with us when making a product complaint and rest assured, we’ll do everything we can to assist you and make your experience shopping at Altius the best it can be.
A person may not use or possess in a vehicle, unless it is secured in a sealed, odor-proof, children resistant container that is kept reasonably inaccessible to the driver. This means cannabis products must be kept in a sealed, odor-proof, children resistant container, and out of the driver’s reach.
Remember, cannabis is still federally illegal, as well as illegal in all states surrounding Illinois for adult users. Possession is only legal in the state of Illinois for adult users. Do not take your cannabis products across any state line.
Unfortunately, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (CRTA) differentiates between Adult Use Cannabis Dispensaries and Medical Cannabis Dispensaries. As a result, here at Altius, we are not able to sell medical cannabis products at the medical cannabis tax rate. Any medical patient may visit and purchase from Altius, however they will have to pay the tax rate for adult use cannabis which can range from 20% to 40% depending on the product.
We are fighting hard to amend this section of the CRTA to increase access for medical patients.
Cannabis affects every person differently depending on the product and their body chemistry. Here at Altius, we always recommend adult users to ‘Start Low and Go Slow.’ You can always increase your dosage, but you cannot decrease your dosage after ingestion.
Visit our Purchaser Information to learn more about the products, potency, dosage, and safely using cannabis outlined in our Purchaser Handbook.
We recommend any smoking or vaporizing products are consumed with a single hit. Consumers should wait 10 to 15 minutes prior to further consumption to see the effects.
We recommend any ingestion of cannabis starts at 5mg. Consumers should wait two hours before increasing dosages. Ingestion of cannabis through edibles or other infused products can take up to two hours before the effects can be felt. All infused cannabis products in Illinois are split into portion sizes of 10mg or less per serving.
The short answer is you can only consume cannabis on privately owned property like a private residence. Possession is more flexible as long as you keep your original packaging and remain away from restricted locations such as schools, parks, government buildings, and other public buildings.
If you’re driving, make sure your cannabis is sealed and out of your reach. Don’t forget cannabis is federally illegal and illegal for adult users in all surrounding states. Keep your cannabis in Illinois! Of course driving while intoxicated is still illegal. Do not operate any motor vehicles or heavy machinery after using cannabis or while under its influence.
